45 RPM – A Long Island Treasure

March 26, 2019:

This incredible band is like a time machine – transporting listeners back to the 70s:

45 rpm long island band

If you haven’t seen 45 RPM at one of their many of their local appearances, than what are you waiting for?

Just about every weekend the band can be found somewhere on Long Island, pumping out those well-known songs so many of us grew up listening to.

The band members are: Danny Calvagna – lead vocals, Linda Mackley – drums and vocals, Michael Barberich – guitar and vocals, Simon Walsh – bass and vocals, Tony Tallarico – keyboards, and Michael Hack – keyboards, guitar, and vocals.

With five outstanding vocalists, this group can nail just about any song, however they shine on those classic 70′s hits that don’t get much air play anymore.

Recently Digital Journal had this to say about the band that promises and delvers fun: “Overall, 45 RPM delivered a noteworthy opening set at Mulcahy’s. Their songs were eclectic and they took their audience back to simpler times. 45 RPM is worth seeing in concert whenever they come to town. One thing is for certain: songs from the ’70s will never go out of style, and it is great that 45 RPM breathes fresh life into them. Their set garnered two thumbs up.”

    2019 Long Island guitar expo

The 8th Annual NY Guitar Expo is proud to announce their return to the Freeport Recreation Center (130 E. Merrick Rd) Saturday, April 27th and Sunday, April 28th, 2019.

“Everyone can participate at different levels. Guitars are sold for $300 to $100,000,” says expo founder and organizer Richard Johnson. “We even encourage people to bring guitars to sell to each other one-on-one or to the dealers.

Johnson works tirelessly to assemble exhibitors of all kinds, and I haven’t missed a show since he started this yearly event.

This guitar show is one of the largest shows in the northeast, and this year’s Expo features new, vintage & used instruments & amps, local dealers/music stores, custom builders and major manufacturers along with the return of the Les Paul Exhibit curated by Jim Wysocki!

A longtime friend of Les Paul’s, Wysocki will have several guitars and inventions from Les Paul’s actual collection. Photographs with the guitars will be allowed and you’ll be able to plug in and play. The exhibit will have one of the first reel to reel tape machines from Les Paul’s 8 track machines.

Richard Johnson said, “It’s an honor to have Jim and his exhibit back at this year’s show. We missed him last year (wedding) and Jim’s personal relationship with Les Paul only adds to the knowledge, humorous background and anecdotes Jim has on Les and his fabulous life!”

Guitar players / enthusiasts have their chance to buy, sell, and trade with a wide range of dealers, other attendees and collectors including Taylor Guitars, Homestead Amps, Gbase, Guitar Center, My Generation Guitars and others. Gear manufacturers to custom builders, everyone attending can participate and enjoy everything the Expo has to offer in some way. With guitars, gear, and a private pedal & amp room it is the place to be for serious players or those just getting into their groove!

“This show has become a fan favorite because of our well-rounded guitar show with vintage gear & guitars, retailers, manufacturers, private collections etc., so anyone walking through the front door can participate in some way large or small.”

    The Show Hours:

  • Saturday, 4/27 – 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  • Huntington-Based Music Festival Presents Young Bands Performing for Charity

    March 6, 2019:

Promising to deliver a great night of music with some of Long Island’s best emerging young artists, the first-ever Sound Waves Music Festival on Friday March 8th is a concert with a cause:

sound waves music festival on long island

SWMF was conceived as a night of great local music in support of those in need. This year, the focus is on two great charities: My Sisters’ Place in Westchester, NY, who works to combat domestic violence and human trafficking of women, men, and children, and The HEART in Haiti School; a private school delivering quality education to over 200 children in Port au Prince, Haiti. All proceeds from the event will be split evenly between these two great foundations.

The night will feature genre-hopping sets from four bands who are making waves on the local music scene and beyond. Music fans of all ages are sure to discover something new, as these artists lend their time and talents to create a night of killer music.

Vaeda Black – Vaeda Black is a 17-year-old singer/songwriter currently in her senior year at Harborfields High School. Vaeda’s unique sound is a blend of alt-pop, hip-hop, indie rock and soul that takes listeners on a dark and mysterious journey through a wide range of emotions.

Ernie & The Band – Emerging on the local club scene in 2018, they quickly are becoming a must-see act after their high energy set at last summer’s Great South Bay Music Festival. Combining elements of jam, blues and classic rock, Ernie & The Band, deliver what can only be described as a new classic sound.

Sons of Sound – The youngest of the festival’s bands, with members ranging from 13 to 15 years old. This soulful power rock trio are already seasoned musicians, serving up bluesy, guitar-driven rock.

Llylac – Little is known publicly about this mysterious indie rock band of Harborfields High School musicians. All extremely talented in their own right, they come together to form a new style of jam band that crosses genres and styles.

“We truly have a passion around both music and giving back, and that’s the driving force behind this event,” stated Tommy Spero, co-founder of the event. “Whenever people can connect – be it through music, having something in common, or working together for a cause – it’s powerful. At Sound Waves, we are combining all of those things to create a very special event.” concluded Spero.

The Sound Waves festival kicks off Friday, March 8th at 7 PM at the American Legion Post 360 at 1 Mill Dam Road, Huntington, NY 11743.
